Take The Mulligan

Take a MulliganLast night I had a dream. I was rocking a baby in my arms. I was so perplexed by the dream. Why would I be having this dream? I don’t want children and really never have felt that maternal urge. I assumed that is what the dream was about. Well, the anxiety attack started setting in and I knew it was time to do some research. So I hopped online and looked up Dream Interpretation. According to dream interpretation books, babies can also represent new beginnings, turning a corner or a fresh start.

Getting a new start in life is something I can relate to and understand. I’ve been cruising along in life riding the terrific waves of joy and prosperity and, then, life happens. I lost my job. I lost my apartment. I lost every dime I had. I lost friends. I lost hope. I lost myself, lost my soul and I lost my belief. When you are that down, it’s hard to imagine ever being back up again. It’s hard to have faith things will turn around when you hit the very bottom of the bottom. And, if you are really beaten up, you even consider surrendering yourself to the darkness and taking your own life. I know of what I speak. I’ve been there. Life can really knock it out of you sometimes and in moments of weakness the release seems so easy.

But, then, life happens again. One good thing happens, then the next good thing happens and little by little over time it turns around. Little by little you start feeling like you are on the upswing rather than the downswing. Then, pretty soon, look out. You are back on top! The power to whether the storm of life is deep down in your own soul. Yes, friends, family, strangers and God can help you along the way. They can cut you the break you may need. They can answer a prayer in just the right way. But, it is up to you to receive the message. It’s up to you to allow yourself to think the impossible can come true and to open yourself up to receive all of the goodness the universe has to offer.

In Golf, a Mulligan is Do-Over. Everyone one of us deserves a Mulligan now and then. Even when we really screw up or when we give it our best shot but just don’t succeed, we deserve to start at scratch and give it another shot. The beauty of life is that it is never too late to learn a new way to swing or a new way to look at the course. Life is all about how you approach it just as Golf is all about how you approach the ball. Just keep your eye on the ball, swing all the way through and let the ball fly further than your mind’s eye can see.

Today chose to address your life with hope. Let all the goodness in life fill your soul and make you new and shiny. Today chose to allow the new beginning that’s lurking just around your corner come into view. Today, when life happens, take the Mulligan you are offered and stay in the game. You just might surprise yourself.
