Everything in Moderation

I think I usually have a good handle on keeping my priorities straight … on keeping everything in check, but I guess every once in a while we need a little “gut-check” to make sure that we truly are on the right path.
I am a busy lady. I think that where I am currently in my life is pretty normal for my age and life stage. I am married, have two children (one of which is a teen, and one of which is a “tween”), work full time, and dabble in some freelance projects. I’m usually running around like a chicken with my head cut off, but that’s me … I thrive on that. I pride myself on being on the forefront of social media and social marketing. I help my clients manage their marketing strategies using these avenues, but today I was reminded that it’s important not to spend too much time online, as you lose track of the “real life” that you should be “living.” Remember, everything is good “in moderation” I was told this morning.
My kids have been on vacation for two weeks, so I’ve used some of that time to do some online learning and to keep up-to-date on my social marketing knowledge, but now that my kids are back I need to readjust my priorities … kids now move up to the top of the list, and everything else slides back just a bit. Not to say that I’m still not doing an A+ job at everything else in my life … it’s just that I need to remind myself, everything in moderation.
Have you had your “gut check” lately? Are your priorities straight? Balanced?
Everything in moderation? COMMENT NOW!
Cheers!

Lisa, a gut check like you mentioned (I spent too much time online and need to reset my priorities) really seemed to be more about you anticipating when and how you need to change priorities for the circumstances, not whether what you are doing at any one moment was wrong.
Your kids were gone, it was right and good that you spent that time online if you wanted, it wasn’t a wrong priority. The problem only came when circumstances changed with your kids coming back. Someone had to remind you of that by using the ‘moderation’ maxim. That, of course, was another way of saying you aren’t doing what you should so get it together. You responded with a bit of guilt, thinking you were wrong for spending so much time online. I think you were only ‘wrong’ in not anticipating the change that came.

Hi Kelly, this was an enjoyable post to read because I can relate. Sometimes in our busy lives, we try to do everything we can to make sure we are getting all our tasks done on time. I spend a lot of time online but sometimes I need to take a step back and realize that I need to take things in moderation. I haven’t have a “gut check lately, but this post reminds me that I need to calm down, set my priorities straight, and balance my daily activities so I don’t go crazy! Thanks for this post.

Nice Post!
I’ve been sick with a Stomach issue for the last two months. Basically, it’s changed my life. I was never a moderation kind of girl. I always went to far and did too much. But, I’ve learned in the last two months my body can’t handle that anymore & it would be irresponsible for me to continue living that way. My priority is being healthy now and learning to keep everything in moderation and remember my priority is health. I can’t help or be of service to anyone, if I can’t get out of bed.
